What to Expect
While not remote, Valcour island, part of the Adirondack State Park is considered a primitive island. Keep in mind there are no services: that means no bathrooms, but instead pit toilets and no showers or running water. Visitors should be prepared for inclement weather, as well as bugs and some poison ivy. Depending on the time of year, walking paths can be overgrown and trails sometimes hard to identify.
Camping
As part of the Adirondack State park, Valcour island is overseen by NY DEC. The 25 primitive campsites that ring the island are free. Usage is limited to 14 days at a single stay. Permits are required for groups of 10 or more that stay more than three nights. More information can be obtained by contacting:

Anyone interested in camping on the island is encouraged to catch a ride with us early morning. Frequently other lake boaters claim available campsites by afternoon.
The Peru Dock
Valcour Island Ferry service has received approval form the New York Department of Environmental Conservation to pick up and drop off passengers at the Peru Dock east of Peru, NY.
Parking
There is parking for at least 50 cars at the state-owned Peru Dock available on a first come first serve basis
No Ferry Signs
The state DEC does not allow commercial businesses to post signs on their land. Moreover, our advertising is meant to be unobstrusive, to help maintain the beauty of the region.
